Cleveland's The New Lou Reeds are back with their signature boozy blues-rock on Top Billin', the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut. The three-piece band is comprised of bassist Edward ÁSotelo who has worked with Cobra Verde and Doug Gillard (formerly of Guided By Voices), drummer Jeff Ottenbacher, and bedeviled singer and guitarist Stephe DK. Described by the press as “druggy, inventive art-rock” and “jagged but fulsome rock action” while drawing comparisons to Captain Beefheart, The White Stripes, Primus, and fellow Ohioans Pere Ubu, the band solder elements of cerebral avant-punk [ala X and Television] with countrified arena rock. At turns wild and weary, backed by licks as volatile as a backwoods whiskey still, singer Stephe DK crafts paeans to down home cooking, trucking through the South, and ramshackle honkytonks.
