Co-founded in 1978 by Chris Cutler, London-based ReR Megacorp remains a musician-led independent label after almost 40 years. Blithely disregarding market wisdom, it continues to release titles across a wide spectrum of genres.
ReR is home to cult bands This Heat, Henry Cow, Faust, Art Bears, The Necks...
“A band that is at once pure jazz-tinged indie rock and political hip hop...rhymes are surrounded by a killer rhythm section that alternates
between straightforward, backbeat-laden hip hop and Sonic Youth-esque noise and space drones." – transformonline.com
More than just a band, Soul Cannon is a vision that encapsulates a wide
range of musical genre and tradition with a high realm of artistically dri-
ven lyricism and composition skills. On their debut album, Kaboom,
each of the 11 tracks develops organically, unfolding original musical
perspectives on function and form to distill a unique sound that resonates
from the intersection of bands such as The Roots and Deerhoof.
Using a juxtaposition of bothered dissonance and sweeping soundscapes to provide the consummate framework for penetrating beats and
gripping lyrics, the raw structural beams of the music are exposed for all
to see. Continually pushing to create a sincere expression of the intricate elements that make up any human experience, Soul Cannon combines an unorthodox approach to harmony with traditional song forms.
"Dilapidated Buildings", "Pampers Low", and "Election Season" illustrate Soul Cannon's breathtaking versatility and deep rooted connection
to the struggles and tribulations of modern life in the urban world.
Soul Cannon has a hard earned reputation for bringing out a diverse
audience made up of listeners from the suburbs to the hood, thugs to hipsters, dabblers and connoisseurs alike, simultaneously satisfying a
hunger for not only high energy music but also thought provoking poetry. "Hands High", "Get Serious" and "Soul Slammin" consistently stir
audiences into a frenetic dance fever and their consistently high energy
live show wins over audiences time and time again.
Perhaps just as important is what is being said by fans and critics alike,
the roots of the band’s sound are deep, and they really seem to care
about what they are doing. Each time they perform, the bar is constantly
being raised...and the result is fresh.
