LEWIS IS THE NEW BLACK
10/13/2006
Lewis Black, familiar to many through his eight years with The Daily Show and multiple HBO specials, is taking his caustic comedy on the road this fall. Plumbing the dark idiosyncrasies of American culture and politics, Black functions as a steam valve for those bewildered by the shadowy underpinnings of current events, dredging up slivers of humor from the grimmest of circumstances. Also in the wings is the release of his stand-up DVD Red, White & Screwed and a role alongside Robin Williams in Man of the Year. Directed by Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog, Rain Man),... More >
ROY OWENS JR.
10/13/2006
In a recent Village Voice piece, Chris Ott waxes philosophical about the liability of straight-forward rocking in our high-falutin’ times. His example is none other than Roy Owens Jr., who with a pronounceable moniker and lack of murky pretension can’t seem to catch a break. Ott asks: How can you pitch a rock band that aren’t obnoxious, that don't think they're clever, that don't pout, or preen, or sneer? While others struggle with this question, Roy Owens Jr. do what they do best, bringing their classic no-frills rock to the Voice’s home turf of New York City... More >

10/10/2006
In addition to shows in NYC, Philly and Bmore with supernova Spank Rock & posse, Lee is set to drop the re-release of his seminal mix Vol. 2: Operation Not Done Yet, available nationally for the first time. In the meantime, check out Lee's profile from the latest Philadelphia Weekly: Age: Over 21. Hometown: Baltimore. Background: The undisputed godfather of Baltimore club. On the recent globalization of the B-more club sound: When you've been doing it for a while, it kind of pans out to where you're just thankful for what you've got. You try to... More >

The Band will soon be in the studio recording their new album, tentatively titled Wack Tracks from Planet Monkey, but in the meantime you can catch them on an autumnal east coast tour, including the closeout show, with Payola Reserve, for the WTMD sponsored 1st Thursdays in the Park series, in Mount Vernon. Check their myspace page for updates as they promise more shows... More >
