MADELEINE PEYROUX & WILLIAM GALISON "Got You On My Mind" CD
Got You on My Mind, the collaboration between acclaimed singer Madeleine Peyroux and multi-instrumentalist William Galison, was recorded in March 2003. It features the unmistakable voice of Peyroux with the unique harmonica virtuosity and soulful guitar work of Galison. The two met in summer 2002 in Greenwich Village and soon began a fruitful musical [and romantic] relationship that resulted in numerous short tours of the East Coast as a duo, and later with a trio and quartet. Both musicians had well established reputations and loyal followings of their own, but the magic that they created together live was immediately apparent to themselves and their fans. With this CD, they captured all the joy, spontaneity and sparkling musicianship that they had been delighting audiences with at their live performances. “No matter what Peyroux does in the future, she’ll be hard-pressed to come up with anything more engaging or charming than her effort with Galison, Got You On My Mind. This hip, retro-sounding 11-song CD is an eclectic collection of songs made famous by everyone from Josephine Baker to the Beatles to Stevie Wonder, as well as three delightful originals. There’s a synergy between Galison and Peyroux here that’s palpable. Peyroux sings with a depth and warmth never heard before, especially on the title track and on Jerome Kern’s “The Way You Look Tonight.” (– Savvy Insider.com) This CD features an array of talent, including Bob Dylan’s bassist Tony Garnier and Saturday Night Live drummer Sean Pelton. Even Carly Simon gets in on the act, doing the voice of the scorpion on the witty, woe-is-me number, “Shoulda Known.” And while Peyroux’s incredible singing is a known commodity, it is Galison’s ability that is the revelation here, as producer and arranger, and playing no less than seven instruments on the album.
