BANG! BANG!
Formed by vocalist/guitarist Jack Flash and vocalist/bassist Gretta Fine in late 2002, Chicago band Bang! Bang! have stood the test of time and maintained their status as one of the City’s best live rock bands. With four studio releases under their belts, the band has endured line up changes, extensive touring and changes to the music industry itself. Since the last record, The Dirt That Makes You Drown, B!B! toured extensively and promoted themselves through the U.S. and Mexico. And , while the band certainly loves what they do, there are certain frustrations that any band will experience when together for a long enough time. They’ve brought all of those frustrations to the table for their fifth release: The Industry EP.
The Industry EP spits back with a heavier, sludgy vibe, the sum total of which amounts to an utter reinvention of their signature sound. “Sleep In Thunder” sets the mood for the album with Jack and Gretta’s tour ramble, vocally stacking a dream-like curtain that weighs throughout most of the EP. That is until Gretta rips the curtain off while doing her part in unleashing raw emotion on the theatrical “New Hi”, her attack like a carnival barker selling the snake oil of the record industry. But despite the changes to Bang! Bang!‘s canvas, the EP is certainly not without it’s hooks. “Hot Noize” is a catchy "hard pop" song that dissects the mentality of a new band looking for that elusive hit. And the EP’s closing track “Don’t Think, Just Feel” ends the journey on an upbeat reminder that over thinking can be a nemesis too.
In conjunction with the new EP, Morphius Records is also releasing a 4-CD Box set, dubbed The Industry Box. This limited edition package combines the bands previous three releases (Electric Sex, Decked Out and The Dirt That Makes You Drown) along with the new EP and a slew of previously unreleased bonus tracks and remixes, including the Spank Rock remix of “Something More”, produced by XXXchange
Both the EP and the Box Set are being released worldwide on September 23rd, but are available for pre-order online from morphius.com (shipping the first week of August). Bang! Bang! host a release party for the album on August 23rd in Chicago at Empty Bottle, and hits the road again in October of 2008 for another U.S tour.

About BANG! BANG!’s previous releases
Formed by vocalist/guitarist Jack Flash and vocalist/bassist Gretta Fine in late 2002, Bang! Bang! was originally dubbed by the mainstream press as Chicago’s first “Sex-Rock” group. Bang! Bang! had their first show in their hometown of Chicago in January 2003. They were quickly received by the local scene and by their third show had opened up for Les Savy Fav at The Empty Bottle, to be followed by opening slots with Bobby Conn, OK Go, Gossip, Modey Lemon and many others. In less than six months, they had become a headlining band playing weekend headlining shows at many well known Chicago clubs including The Empty Bottle, Double Door, Abbey Pub and Metro. The band got an unexpected lift from a license deal in 2003 which put their “High Speed Romance“ track on a 2003 sampler released by the Copper Label. 2 million copies of the sampler were distributed in the U.S. during 2003.
After playing scores of in-town shows and several tours along the east coast and throughout the the Midwest, Bang! Bang! self released their first CD, an EP entitled “Do You Like It?”, which helped the band garner press and high praise from publications such as The Chicago Reader, New City, Venus Magazine, The Onion, and even The Chicago Sun-Times, the band’s high energy live show and reputation for self-promotion fueled word of mouth advertising, bringing more and more new fans to every show. The live show is immediate and visual with a punk intensity, in the past including matching outfits and stage antics have included dancing girls, sex-wrestling with finger paint, and a variety of other compelling hi-jinks. But don’t mistake Bang! Bang! for a gimmick band. Their sound recalls classic influences from movements such as New Wave/Post Punk (Blondie, B-52s, The Briefs, the Rezillos) and Glam Rock (New York Dolls) while maintaining a forward-thinking modern awareness that has been favorably compared to bands as diverse as Hot Hot Heat, Cibbo Matto, The Argument, and others. The end result sound is both familiar and unique with a cheeky, yet honest, emphasis on sexual energy. Jack and Gretta tradeoff male/female vocals, making use of a keenly developed ability to harmonize and Fine’s more sultry/carnal lead vocals.
Members:
Jack Flash, Gretta Fine, Nick Kraska)
(Nick Kraska played drums on The Dirt That Makes You Drown and The Industry EP. Mike Wednesday played drums on Electric Sex and Decked Out.)
Downtown club rock & back alley sex grooves – hotter and more convincing than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’... You can dance to it, and probably f*ck to it, too, though you might wanna stretch a bit before attempting to keep up with the pelvic beat. — Paul Gaita (Sleazegrinder)
Also a contender for the new wave crown, Bang! Bang! Gets it on with “electric Sex” (Morphius), a five-track EP that smells as much like gunpowder as it does sexual essence and sweat. Sexy and feverish, “Candystop” is a difficult-to-ignore call to dance, vertically or horizontally. Vocalist Gretta Fine has mastered the new wave love call on this track and “Make You Believe,” and Jack Flash does his part on the vocals for “On Fire” and “Something More.” By the time they get to duet on the title track, you will probably have soaked at least one towel. — Chicago Free Press
