CAN THE EVENS STOP TIME? PITCHFORK WONDERS

The new Evens album Get Evens is getting a lot of love here at Morphius, as it’s an imminently worthy follow-up to last year’s self-titled debut. Even Pitchfork gave it a warm review, ponying up a rating of 7.8, though writer Tom Breihan can’t seem to shake a nostalgia for the heyday of Fugazi. It’s hard to blame him as singer/guitarist Ian Mackaye casts a long shadow. Yet the Evens prove again they don’t need the crutch of hallowed punk pedigree, as they stand firmly on their own feet. A BIT JAMES BOND: THE STORY BEHIND MUSIC DE WOLFE

Occasionally a compilation comes out with a story behind it as fascinating as the music it features. Music De Wolfe is definitely one of these, a smash-up collection of fifteen funk and psych blasters, culled from the crème of the stalwart British De Wolfe Music Library by DJ and Megaphone Unlimited label head Jason Willet. Pitchfork review of Pony Pants' track Pony Train:If you like going bonkers to dirty electro, there's really no excuse for you not being in Philly right now.
