THE DEATH SET + PONYTAIL TOUR!!
05/01/2007
After months of continent-jumping (US to Europe to Australia) The Death Set have finally sorta settled back in the States, acquiring guitarist Matt Papich of Ecstatic Sunshine, where they have been diligently recording a brand new EP due out next month and their first full-length (slated for a fall release). To celebrate they've been playing out on the East Coast and at SXSW, but this summer they're teaming up with recent Monitor Records signees and Bmore heroes Ponytail for a blitz into the heartland. More information about the tour will be announced soon,... More >
THRUSHES WIN CMJ SONIC BIDS SPOTLIGHT, TOUR
04/30/2007
Baltimore shoegazers Thrushes have been awarded the CMJ Sonic Bids Spotlight! Despite having released their debut album Sun Come Undone little over a month ago, and in relative obscurity, Thrushes has been basking in a stunning level of fan accolades. The CMJ Spotlight follows flurries of internet attention which culminated, earlier this month, in garnering the distinction of most blogged band of the week (stats breakdown at Idolator). Thrushes is poised to reward their buzzing fanbase with a summer tour: 05/12 - Richmond, VA - The Full Slurpee... More >
SUPER CUTIES FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM
04/30/2007
Creative Capitalism, which has brought you the likes of Ponytail, LO MOdA, History At Our Disposal and several excellent collaborative art books, has birthed not one but TWO new glories! Yes, that's right, CC head Peter Quinn recently announced the arrival of his twin infants, Peter Jr and Catherine! Quinn Sr also announced the collaborative, earth-minded HOMELAND PROJECT: Creative Capitalist, Benjamin Domanico, is looking for participants for his Homeland piece right now as part of his thesis at MICA! Homeland is a collaboration involving the... More >
SANCTION THIS: A SHORT HISTORY OF COMMUNIST FUNK
04/20/2007
Morphius Distribution is pleased to announce the arrival of the new compilation: Sí, Para Usted: The Funky Beats of Revolutionary Cuba, assembled by radio host Dan Zacks. While we here at Morphius have been thrilled by the slew of excellent funk reissues of late, it is the rare title that bursts with such fascinating history. And rarer still do we come across a compilation that squeaks through years of dust and political sanctions to emerge, not as a mere curiousity or historical footnote, but as a rump-shaking testament to the transcendental power of music... BANG! BANG! RELEASE NEW ALBUM, TOUR
04/18/2007
Chicago rockers Bang! Bang! just finished the first leg of their 6 week tour, capping it with a brief return to the Windy City for a big CD release show on Saturday. The new album The Dirt That Makes You Drown officially hit stores on Tuesday of last week, and their show on Saturday at Chicago’s Beat Kitchen was a huge success. The band played to a nearly sold out crowd and were swarmed all night by fans anxious to hear all about the tour. As for the new album, it’s flying off the shelves but is always available at Morphius.com. In fact, the next 50 people... More >

"Groove band Unknown Instructors is made up of Mike Watt (fIREHOSE, The Stooges), Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust), George Hurley (fIREHOSE), Dan McGuire, David Thomas (Pere Ubu, guest vocals on three tracks), and Raymond Pettibon (cover art, vocals on "Twing-Twang"). All respected artists, all in one place. And they released The Master's Voice last month on Smog Veil Records. Master's follows up the previous album, The Way Things Work. BEAUTIFUL TAPESTRIES: MORE THOUGHTS ON THRUSHES
04/04/2007
Thrushes premise is strikingly simple. Rock music should be beautiful. Elevating grand canyon reverberation to high art and venerating Phil Spector as the patron saint of sonic emotion, Thrushes craft gorgeous noise pop and swirling dream rock lullabies. Armed with stacks of old Crystals records played at the dark edge of town, this is the sound of blood on blood. ******************************** For the week of March 28 to April 4th, both “Heartbeats” and “Aidan Quinn” from the Thrushes' debut Sun Come Undone were in the Top 35 blogged tracks in the...
