ARBOURETUM: PITCHFORK INTERVIEW
03/07/2007
There's an amazing, lengthy interview with Dave Heumann of Arbouretum up on Pitchfork covering the band's recent album Rites of Uncovering, Heumann's past work with Will Oldham, speculations on Cass McComb's forthcoming album and much, much more! Here's a taste, with Heumann giving shout outs to the fecund Baltimore scene:

Pitchfork: Do you have anything to say about the bands coming out of Baltimore right now? Beach House had a big year. And there was the closing of the Talking Head on New Year's Eve, etc.

Heumann: I'm really happy for Beach House. They absolutely deserve all of the good things that have happened to them recently; they have such great songs. There's actually a lot of excellent music being made in Baltimore these days: Noble Lake, Vincent Black Shadow, Daniel Higgs, the Frenemies, Ponytail, Lizz King, Thank you, Wzt Hearts...There's probably about 20 or so bands I wouldn't be opposed to going out and seeing on any given night, and everyone sounds completely different from everyone else. The Talking Head's closing has seemed to leave a bit of a vacuum, but I think other places will take up the slack somehow. There will probably be more shows at warehouses and such, and who knows? Maybe the Talking Head will re-open somewhere. I've lived here long enough to know that a state of flux such as the one we're experiencing won't be a permanent one.
