PERE UBU REMIX ALBUM
03/21/2007

Why I Remix Women is a collection of remixes of material from Pere Ubu's critically acclaimed album Why I Hate Women . The remixers include bandmembers Keith Moliné, Michele Temple and Ubu soundman Dids. Among the many stand out tracks on the disc is a track entitled “Moon, I’m coming Home”, Which includes elements of the tracks 2 Girls, Caroleen, My Boyfriend's Back and Synth Farm. Keith Moliné manages to mold these three songs into a prog masterpiece.

A Short History of Pere Ubu

Pere Ubu emerged from the urban wastelands of mid-’70s Cleveland to impact the American underground for generations to follow; led by hulking frontman David Thomas, whose absurdist warble and rapturously demented lyrics remained the band’s creative focus throughout their long, convoluted career, Ubu’s protean artpunk sound harnessed self-destructing melodies, scattershot rhythms, and industrial strength dissonance to capture the angst and chaos of their times with both apocalyptic fervor and surprising humanity. Named in honor of Alfred Jarry’s surrealist play Ubu Roi, Pere Ubu was formed in the autumn of 1975 from the ashes of local cult favorite Rocket From the Tombs, reuniting Thomas (aka Crocus Behemoth) with guitarist Peter Laughner; adding guitarist Tom Herman, bassist Tim Wright, keyboardist Allen Ravenstine, and drummer Scott Krauss, the group soon issued its debut single, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo. The follow-up, Final Solution appeared on Thomas’ renamed Hearpen label in early 1976, and resulted in a series of live dates at the famed NYC club Max’s Kansas City. Since its inception Pere Ubu has maintained a dedicated cult following, influencing countless bands along their long storied career. For more than 30 years, Pere Ubu have consistently conducted their affairs as they see fit, regardless of convention, stating their interest in atmosphere, mood, drama, energy, subtlety, imagination — not rock cliché. In 1985, it was said that: “Pere Ubu will be looked back on as the most important group to have come out of America in the last decade and a half. Either that or they will be entirely forgotten” (Melody Maker)
