Born and raised near Chattanooga, TN, J. Roddy Walston is the only limb left on the once-proud family tree of the Roddy clan. It was in the Smoky Mountain hollers of Tennessee that he was raised on the “Music of God” and taught to play rock and roll by the hand of the Devil. As a child, his grandmother turned down the Grand Ole Opry to sing only for God and family, while his uncle chose to drink himself to death in the real honky-tonks rather than heed the calls of the Nashville hit-makers that constantly beckoned.

In as much an attempt to bring due credit to his kin as a desire to rebel against what they stood for, he moved from the shadows and secrets of the South into the spotlight and temptations of the North. Whether by divine appointment or a cocktail devised by the Devil, no one knows, but by the time he reached Baltimore, a vicious band of players had gathered around him. Together, they’ve been begging rock n’ roll to respect its past and teaching old music new tricks.

Meanwhile, Baltimore really is a rough town, and the violence of the city and sheer muscle of the band’s live show has turned them into nothing less than a modern Rock n’ Roll Miracle. Amazing atmospheric and natural black metal sounds in the styles of Ulver, Agalloch and Azrael, while paying tribute to the fore fathers of Norwegian Black Metal, Darkthrone, Satyricon and Burzum. "the first WYRD demo was unleashed upon feeble mortals in early 2000. "Unchained Heathen Wrath" featured material recorded between 1998 and 2000, some of the older stuff was still in the vein of the old Hellkult release while the newer songs on the demo introduced more atmospheric and slower elements to the music. Lyrical themes were still centered around old folklore and nordic mythology like before. The second demo, "Of Revenge and Bloodstained Swords", released in 2001, saw the last of the thrash influences fade into the background to make room for the more atmospheric style of heathen / black metal" which leads us to this beautiful release. Wolves howling, winds echoing through the woods fueled by nordic black metal savagery. This release will also appeal to fans of the US Black Metal Movement: Xasthur, Leviathan, Krieg, Judas Iscariot and Nachtmystium. Subtle and unintrusive keyboard strains throughout give an epic and vast quality to the memorably brutal songs on display.
